About Joe Steen
Joseph (Joe) Steen was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on August 5, 1998, as a triplet alongside his sisters, Mary and Hannah. From the beginning, Joe’s life was defined by strong bonds with family, friends, and the people and animals around him. Known for his infectious smile and joyful spirit, Joe had a rare ability to make others feel welcomed and valued.
Joe was passionate about sports and competition, whether as an athlete or a lifelong fan. Sports provided him a natural way to connect with others, form lasting friendships, and build community. These connections grew stronger during his college years at Appalachian State University and continued after graduation, when he moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, living among close friends and family.
One of Joe’s most meaningful relationships was with his black lab, Charlotte. Their bond reflected Joe’s gentle heart and instinct to care for those who depended on him. This compassion was not limited to animals; Joe consistently showed concern for people facing hardship and never took his relationships for granted.
Wherever he was or whoever he was with, Joe brought light, laughter, and authenticity into every room. Though his life was tragically cut short, his impact remains deeply felt. Joe’s name, Joseph, means “God will increase,” and throughout his life, Joe did exactly that—bringing more joy, kindness, and love into the lives of others.
