Tournament Rules

The Joe Steen Memorial Golf Tournament will follow the rules as stated on this page.  If participants have questions over any specifics, please consult The Steen Family Foundation, Inc.

Basic Format

The Joe Steen Memorial Tournament is a Captain's Choice (AKA Scramble) tournament.  Each player hits a tee shot on each hole and then the team chooses the best shot amongst the group.  This process continues until the ball is holed.  Mulligans and forward tee shots can be purchased prior to the tournament.

Scoring

Each team records one score per hole (the total strokes taken from the best shots).  The tournament is standard stroke play.  In the event of a tiebreaker (once final scores are counted), the distance to the pin (in Closest-To-Pin) will be the deciding factor for final team victory.

Playing Each Shot

Once an individual's shot is selected (within the team), it is crucial that other teammates place their ball within one club length of that spot, no closer to the hole.  Everyone must play from the same condition of the selected ball.  For example, if the selected ball is in the rough then shots for all teammates should be made from the rough as well.

Special Holes

The course will have special holes throughout the round & separate awards may be given for these competitions.  The special holes are still being decided, however, ideas evaluated include: 1) Closest to the Pin, 2) Longest Drive, 3) Professional Drive, & 4) Forward Tee Shot.
